Dress Up & Candy!
So listen, I am getting a strong feeling from some people that they are disappointed in the fact that I let my kids trick-or-treat. I just want you all to know that I took some time to explain to Tres that we don't celebrate Halloween, but we can play dress up and get some candy. I just simply think that it's fun for kids to play dress up. In fact, Bryant has been wanting to wear any costume he can lately. So cute! I do not celebrate All Hallows Eve, Halloween, or evil in any way. I just wanted my kids to have fun! And they did.

To be honest, completely honest....I really don't care whether other people like it or not. That might sound a little mean but I know the values and principles we are teaching our children...like you said it was just fun for them to do. I have known way too many friends growing up the were kept from "normal" things and when they were away from their parents they were complete hellians...As long as we teach our children what things are for and what we believe I don't see any problem with trick or treating. it is just childish fun
here is my thing- you dont do anything scary, and let the kids know, if they want to be scary, they wont do it. that we are just dressing up and getting candy, on a night like that- with your parents (especially young children) whats it going to hurt, they would be doing the same thing at church, they dress up there to dont they? there is no difference, as long as you dont let your child be something evil.. but thats just my own personal belief, i carved pumpkins too but if you looked at them one was a cross, and one was a smiling pumpkin- just because the day is sat aside and claimed as the "devils" day, does not mean that the christian people have to sit in their house and keep their children from fun. you explain to your child and have fun with them, I dressed up this year with my children and we had a blast..
I don't see anything wrong with it either Jamie. Especially since you are instilling moral values into your children & are teaching them what's what. You & Hank are great parents & it's your choice what you do & don't do with your children. And for the people who seem to have a problem with it, then pooey on them.
I am so sorry that people have been critical or snubby about your family's decision. Alex and I do not celebrate halloween (what I mean by that is do any of the normal festive stuff)but I believe it is by personal conviction that christian families make that choice and NO ONE should be critical of one another. To me, it is similar to the movies christians watch. All chrisitans have personal convictions about movies and they regulate what they watch according to those beliefs. Still, every one's beliefs are different and therefore, no one should criticize! You are not bad people but wonderful parents raising your kids in a Godly home, you have heard me say that before and now I am writing it for the world to read! We love you guys!
We have dressed up Justus for the past two years, kids love to dress up & it's fun for the parents too.
I took Justus to several festivals, he got candy and that was enough for me. Keep being involved in your kids lives, as you already know- they'll be just fine! ps-they both looked cute!
